Springtime in Florida can sometimes feel unremarkable compared to colder weather states, but whether the temperature is changing 2 degrees or 20 degrees, the entire Northern Hemisphere is experiencing an energetic shift.
Winter is for rest, bulking and rooting in nature. As we travel through the month of March we are entering the time of action, shedding, bloom and life!
How exciting!
You may feel the urge to clean out your closet and donate those old clothes, switch up your staple dinner recipe with some seasonal ingredients from the local farmers market, or do something recreational that you’ve never tried before!
Behold!
You are springing into action!
We here at Element Five Fitness are doing it with you!
As coaches, we love routine!
It keeps us grounded, disciplined and focused.
We also know that trying something different can breathe new, exciting life into our established habits, and keep us motivated.
So this month, we are encouraging you to spring into action and incorporate something new into your weekly or monthly movement practice. It may sound simple, but the more you plan and prepare and let yourself get excited, the more positive your experience will turn out to be!
What does trying something new look like? Let’s look at the ways you can spring into action in three categories.
- Try something you’ve never done before.
- Change the scenery (my personal favorite)
- Step it up
Try Something New:
Let’s say you’re an avid jogger.
You go every single Saturday around your neighborhood.
You’ve also always wanted to try kayaking but you don’t know how you’ll possibly fit it into your busy schedule.
This month, Give yourself permission to use one of your jogging Saturdays and reserve that Kayak at your local State Park instead! Not only will you finally get to cross “try kayaking” off of your to-do list (which will feel so, so good), but chances are you’ll feel inspired, invigorated, and enjoy your jog next Saturday ten times more.
Similarly another example of trying something brand new: Let’s say you’re an avid strength trainer.
You attend some type of conditioning class 2-3 times per week. You’re feeling great usually, but you’ve always been a little curious about the benefits of yoga.
This is the month to try!
Sit down and look at your class schedule, and replace just 1 of those conditioning classes for a yoga class instead for the next four weeks.
You have nothing to lose by trying it, and it’s possible you’ll return to your conditioning classes feeling refreshed, more focused, and maybe with a bit more mobility!
Change up the scenery:
Instead of running in your neighborhood, try running in the park!
- Do you walk your dog at the park? Try the beach!
- Do you do yoga at a studio? Try an outdoor yoga class!
- Do you usually rush home on Friday evenings with the rush hour traffic? Stop by Element Five and take our 5:15 Pilates class while the traffic slows down! (see what I did there?)
There is always a new park to be explored, a new route to be taken, and a different way to do what you’ve already been doing.
This is your sign to give it a try!
Step it up:
Spring is a time to grow, transform, renew.
We want to encourage our members to be brave and level up when the time is right.
If you’re moving regularly and taking classes often, and you feel like you’re ready for new information, maybe it’s time to budget for some one-on-one training.
This is an incredible opportunity to reconnect with your goals and to set new intentions.
Speak to your coaches about what would be a safe natural way for you to increase intensity in your movement practice.
I’ve created a list of movements for inspiration. I hope you enjoy:
- Walk, alone, with a friend, or with your pet
- Jog
- Swim
- Kayak or stand-up paddle
- Yoga
- Strength and conditioning class
- Bike ride
- Hike in a state park
- Play a sport with friends
- Gardening
- Take a trial class at a climbing gym or a martial arts studio
- Roller skating
So whether you’re trying something new, changing the scenery, or stepping up your game, March is the perfect time to spring into action.
We’re here to support you every step of the way!
